Ukraine dismisses Russian gas transit amid US talks on minerals

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, clarified that Ukraine's gas transmission system was not a subject in the context of the mineral resources agreement with the USA. He mentioned that discussions about the pipeline are ongoing, but he excluded the transit of Russian gas.

During a meeting with journalists on 17 April, Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the issue of Ukraine's gas transmission system. According to "Pravda," the President of Ukraine stressed that this topic was not raised in the context of the mineral resources agreement with the USA.

"We did not discuss the pipeline. Although, if we are considering this asset, we can talk about it. But certainly not about the Russians pumping their gas and profiting from the war. We have said many times: there is other gas, other countries," that's fine, said Zelensky.

Zelensky explained that Ukraine does not consider resuming gas transit, and the United States is not advocating for such a step. The President added that talks might involve other gas sources and other countries.

Earlier, Reuters reported that the USA was considering control over the pipeline connecting Russia to Europe through Ukraine.

In the context of the mineral resources agreement, Zelensky emphasised that Ukraine does not intend to support Russian energy interests. The President noted that discussions with the USA concern other aspects of cooperation, not gas transmission. "Pravda" reports that Ukraine is open to dialogue about other energy possibilities.
