Ukraine vows retribution after Russian strike on Sumy

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, once again promised retaliation for the Russian attack on Sumy, which occurred on Palm Sunday. "We have something to respond to such attacks, and we will not leave the (...) who kill our people alone on this land. We have right to do so," he said in an evening address.

Zelensky promises retaliation for Sumy

- Their professional day was on April 13, when Russia struck Sumy with ballistic missiles. We have the means to respond to such strikes, and we will not simply let the scum who kill our people leave in peace on this earth. We have every right to do this, it is absolutely just – to respond to the killers as they deserve. Russia must accept the idea of the inevitability of Ukraine's strength, and a truly reliable peace can only be achieved when reality forces Russia to come to terms with our capabilities," said Zelensky.

"Our drones, Ukrainian missiles, our artillery, Ukrainian shells, our equipment – everything produced by Ukraine – will defend Ukraine, the lives of our people, our state," he added.

Agreement with the United States nearing completion?

The Ukrainian leader also noted that the government team working with the American side on the economic partnership agreement has achieved "good results."

Deputy Prime Minister Julija Swyrydenko updated the situation today, noting that the fundamental legal matters are nearly finalised. As he pointed out, if the current pace and positive cooperation persist, the deal is expected to generate economic advantages for both Ukraine and the United States.

Zelensky revealed that Ukraine plans intensive diplomatic actions in Europe, the US, and other countries to influence the international situation. The President stressed that Russia is solely responsible for the war and the lack of even a ceasefire. Ukraine accepted the American proposal for a complete ceasefire, but Russia ignored it, with no consequences, which the President considers a key problem.
