Ukraine's 'Spider Web' op delivers blow to Russian airpower
"The head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Maliuk, presented a report on today's operation. An absolutely brilliant result," commented Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on social media.
On Sunday, an operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) resulted in damage to dozens of Russian strategic aviation aircraft. The special operation, codenamed "Spider Web," had been in preparation by the SBU for over eighteen months.
In the evening, the action was summarised on social media by the Ukrainian President, who met with the head of Ukraine's SBU, Vasyl Maliuk.
"One year, six months, and nine days from the start of planning to effective execution. Our most long-range operation. Our people involved in preparing the operation were withdrawn from Russian territory in time," stated Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky added that he had instructed the Security Service of Ukraine to inform the public about those aspects of the operation that can be disclosed.
"Of course, not everything can be revealed at this moment, but these are Ukrainian actions that will undoubtedly be in history books. Ukraine is defending itself, and rightly so – we are doing everything to make Russia feel the need to end this war. Russia started this war, Russia must end it," added Zelensky.
