Broth is both the simplest and most complex dish in the world. In various culinary traditions, great importance is placed on each ingredient. Both the cooking temperature and the sequence of adding spices are significant. However, the quality of the meat is paramount. Fresh, low-fat chicken from smaller farms will result in a clear, flavourful broth that is full of nutritional value.

List of additions that improve broth flavour

If you're short on time or prefer spicier notes, you can try a few tested methods to enrich the soup's flavour. Towards the end of cooking, Magda Gessler adds two cloves to the broth, but a similar effect can be achieved by adding two or three slices of ginger.

To enhance the salty flavour, try using soy sauce. Just one or two tablespoons of this liquid seasoning will add character to the broth. Another addition that can improve the broth's taste is turmeric—it will not only elevate the flavour but also brighten the soup's colour.

Turmeric, along with cloves and ginger, are spices that taste great and also support the immune system. They can aid recovery from a nasty infection, boasting antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and also improve metabolism.

Unexpected ingredient that enriches soup flavour

This addition might surprise you, but it's quite interesting and allows you to repurpose leftovers effectively. Many people discard the hard rinds of Parmesan. Instead of throwing them away, you can store them in the freezer. When you're ready to make broth, place the rinds in the pot with the vegetables and chicken. Simmer on low heat for two to three hours.
