Unveiling kitchen secrets: The colourful truth about dishwashing sponges
Despite their common presence in homes, dishwashing sponges boast interesting secrets linked to their colours. Each shade hints at a different intended use, significantly impacting how various surfaces are cleaned.
Although they might seem like products with identical functions at first glance, dishwashing sponges are designed with specific purposes in mind. The colour of the sponge signifies the situations in which it is best suited for use.
Which sponge to choose?
If you've never considered this aspect before, it's worth paying more attention from now on. Dishwashing sponges come in several colours, indicating whether they are designed for tougher or more delicate cleaning tasks. The green sponge is the toughest among them, capable of removing the most stubborn dirt. However, it should be used with care, as it can scratch the surface of dishes.
The red sponge is just behind it, offering slightly less but still robust cleaning power. It possesses what is known as "medium strength" and is significantly safer concerning the risk of scratching dishes than the green one.
And what about glasses, wine glasses, or porcelain? These items often cannot (and should not) be washed in the dishwasher. They require gentle hand cleaning.
In these instances, dishwashing sponges in yellow and blue prove most effective. The yellow sponge is excellent for glasses and wine glasses, while the blue one, regarded as the most delicate of all, is ideal for porcelain and, importantly, pans or roasting tins. These items often endure heavy scrubbing, which can damage the surface and diminish their lifespan.
