US Air Force strikes Houthi fuel depot, escalating tensions
The United States Air Force has destroyed a fuel depot in western Yemen. The objective of the attack was to deprive the Houthi rebels of their fuel supply sources, as reported by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on Friday. According to sources close to the rebels, 38 people were killed and 102 were injured.
In a statement released by CENTCOM on platform X, the attacks were described as a way to "degrade the economic source of power of the Houthis, who continue to exploit and bring great pain upon their fellow countrymen. ."
The Pentagon has not yet commented on the reported casualties.
Operation against the Houthis
The United States launched large-scale attacks against the Houthis last month, declaring that these would continue until the rebels stop terrorising ships in the Red Sea.
The Houthis have been conducting these attacks since November 2023, asserting that they are protesting against Israel's conflict in the Gaza Strip and aiming to support the Palestinians living in that area. They claim they are targeting ships transporting supplies for Israel.
