Since 5th March, when the US halted the exchange of intelligence data with Ukraine, Russian forces have intensified their activities in the Kursk region. Ukrainian forces are in retreat, as confirmed by a report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). Ukrainian military intelligence noted that this period has coincided with swifter progress by the Russians.

A source within the Ukrainian government confirmed that the absence of intelligence data from the USA has impeded the Ukrainian army's efforts. Having previously concentrated on the Donetsk region, the Russians are now focusing on the Kursk region. The Kremlin plans to exploit the suspension of American assistance to inflict maximum damage on Ukrainian forces before any potential resumption of support.

According to military bloggers, Russian troops have taken control of the village of Ivashkovsky and are attempting to encircle Ukrainians in a "cauldron," attacking from seven directions. On Sunday, Russian forces recaptured three villages, having earlier launched an assault through a gas pipeline near Sudzha, catching the Ukrainians off-guard.

Critical situation at the border

The Ukrainian project DeepState reports that soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are endeavouring to stall Russian attacks. The most critical situation is on the border between the Kursk and Sumy regions. Russian special forces launched an attack, advancing within a gas pipeline, which surprised the Ukrainian troops.

The ISW report notes that while it is challenging to prove a direct link between the cessation of data exchange and the difficulties facing Ukrainian troops, the situation in the Kursk region is becoming increasingly tense.
