US mediates Black Sea truce and ends energy attacks
Russia and Ukraine have agreed to ensure safe navigation and refrain from using force in the Black Sea, the White House announced after discussions with both parties. The statement also emphasised that the United States will strive to restore Russia's access to global markets in agricultural products and fertilisers.
Following talks with the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Riyadh, the White House reported that both sides agreed to guarantee "safe navigation" in the Black Sea.
The United States also stated that it will assist in restoring Russian access to global markets for their agricultural products and fertilisers. It was also noted that the US would like to facilitate access to ports and payment systems for such transactions.
End to attacks on energy infrastructure
Both parties also agreed to cease attacks targeting energy infrastructure in Ukraine and Russia.
The United States is also set to support prisoner exchange processes and assist in the return of Ukrainian children taken from the invaded country.
According to the White House statement, the US will continue to support negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. It was highlighted that efforts will persist towards achieving a lasting and enduring peace.
