Venice to double entry fees in 2024 to curb day tourism
Although the decision to introduce entry fees to Venice was made some time ago, it remains a controversial topic. This year, during the spring and summer, the fee was collected over 29 days, and next year it will be imposed on nearly twice as many days. How much will tourists have to pay?

Venice is the first city in the world to introduce a mandatory entry fee for tourists who do not stay overnight. The aim is to limit so-called "day tourism," which involves visiting for only a few hours without an overnight stay. On Thursday, 24th October this year, the city authorities announced regulations regarding these fees.
Fees in Venice
Next year, the entry fee to Venice, applicable to tourists not staying overnight, will range from 5 to 10 euros per person. The fee will be applied on 54 designated peak days, starting from 18th April.
The fee will need to be paid if arriving between 8.30 AM and 4.00 PM. Last year, the entry fee was fixed at 5 euros; in 2025, it will vary.
Those who pay the fee in advance, no later than four days before arrival, will pay 5 euros. If paid at the last minute, it will be doubled to 10 euros. Children up to the age of 14 are exempt from the fee.
When will we pay for entry?
In the first phase, the entry ticket to the city and registration of arrival will be required from 18th April to 4th May, during the peak travel periods associated with Liberation Day on 25th April and Labour Day on 1st May. Thereafter, the fee will be applicable on all weekends in May, June, and July, as well as on 2nd June, when Republic Day falls.
