Volkswagen to close iconic T‑Roc Cabrio line, factory's fate unsure
Volkswagen announced plans to cease production of the T-Roc Cabrio model. The future of the Osnabrück plant, where it is manufactured, remains uncertain.
The T-Roc Cabrio is Volkswagen's quirkiest and final convertible. Its production will conclude by 2027. This is part of a broader strategy to streamline the manufacturer's portfolio.
In addition to the convertible, another model will also be withdrawn from the lineup. This refers to the Arteon Shooting Brake, which will exit the market in 2026. Earlier in 2023, the four-door version of the model was discontinued.
Currently, it is unclear what the future holds for the Osnabrück factory producing the T-Roc Cabrio. However, given the company's cost-cutting and redundancy plans, its closure cannot be discounted. This is especially pertinent since the Porsche Boxster and Cayman produced there are also approaching the end of their market tenure.
Volkswagen also intends to reduce its workforce in Germany by more than 35,000 employees by the decade's end. These changes will significantly impact the Wolfsburg plant, and the Golf hatchback and estate car production will be relocated to Mexico in 2027.
