Zelensky and Trump discuss next steps after Putin truce deal
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced during a visit to Helsinki that he would speak with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, later on Wednesday.
"Today I will have contact with President Trump. Today we will discuss with him the details of the next steps. We had a really good meeting of our teams in Jeddah. I think everything was going right, if not for Russia, which is always unhappy when something is going right," Zelensky stated.
"Therefore, we will discuss with him the details of the next steps, and I think I will hear from him the details of his conversation with Putin," added the President of Ukraine.
Trump-Putin conversation
The phone conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin concluded late Tuesday afternoon. In the statements issued afterwards, both sides conveyed that the Russian leader agreed to a 30-day suspension of attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities.
Moscow's statement further noted that "during the conversation, Donald Trump put forward a proposal for the parties to the conflict to mutually refrain from striking energy infrastructure facilities for 30 days. Vladimir Putin responded positively to this initiative and immediately gave the Russian military the corresponding command."
The White House statement, on the other hand, highlighted that Trump and Putin agreed that "the leaders agreed that the movement to peace will begin with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, as well as technical negotiations on implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, full ceasefire and permanent peace."
