Air campaign intensifies as U.S. targets ISIS in Syria
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that on Sunday, B-52 bombers, F-15 fighters, and A-10 aircraft carried out over 70 airstrikes on ISIS targets in Syria to "prevent the terrorist group from conducting external operations."
As noted in the statement, the airstrikes targeted ISIS leaders, militants, and camps as part of an ongoing mission aimed at disrupting, weakening, and ultimately defeating this terrorist organization.
"The strikes against the ISIS leaders, operatives, and camps were conducted as part of the ongoing mission to disrupt, degrade, and defeat ISIS, in order to prevent the terrorist group from conducting external operations and to ensure that ISIS does not seek to take advantage of the current situation to reconstitute in central Syria," CENTCOM emphasized.
The operation covered more than 75 targets, attacked using various resources of the U.S. Air Force, including B-52 strategic bombers, F-15 fighters, and A-10 close-support aircraft.
"Battle damage assessments are underway, and there are no indications of civilian casualties," it was stressed.
CENTCOM assured that, in cooperation with allies and partners in the region, it will continue efforts to weaken ISIS's operational capabilities, even in this dynamic situation in Syria.
- There should be no doubt - we will not allow ISIS to reconstitute and take advantage of the current situation in Syria - said General Michael Erik Kurilla. - All organizations in Syria should know that we will hold them accountable if they partner with or support ISIS in any way - he added.
