China refutes Ukraine's claims on supplying Russia with arms

The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, dismissed accusations from the Ukrainian authorities as baseless. They asserted that China provides devices, chemicals, gunpowder, and spare parts to Russian defence industry enterprises.

During a briefing, Mao reiterated China's stance on the "conflict in Ukraine," as the authorities in Beijing have consistently referred to the full-scale Russian invasion, emphasizing that it is "consistent and clear."

China has never provided lethal weapons to any parties to the conflict in Ukraine and strictly controls dual-use items, said Mao. The spokesperson suggested that "the Ukrainian side knows this full well."

She added that China "strongly opposes baseless accusations and political manipulation."

On Monday, Ukraine’s foreign intelligence chief (SZRU), Oleh Ivashchenko, told the Ukrinform agency that China supplies devices, chemicals, gunpowder, and spare parts to Russian defence industry enterprises. He also emphasized that the cooperation of 20 factories with the Chinese side was confirmed.

According to Ivashchenko, between 2024 and 2025, there were at least five instances of cooperation with China in the aviation industry—this involves equipment, spare parts, and documentation. "In six cases, large volumes of special chemicals were delivered," he added.

"As of early 2025, 80% of the critical electronics used in Russian drones originated from China. These deliveries often involve relabelling, deceptive naming, and shell companies through which items required to manufacture microelectronics are shipped from China to Russia," Ivashchenko stated.

China supplying Russia with ammunition and explosives

In mid-April, the Foreign Ministry in Beijing also rejected accusations from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who stated that China provides Russia with ammunition and explosives and is involved in arms production in Russia.

The communist authorities of China have never publicly condemned Russia for the attack on Ukraine, and over the past three years, they have strengthened economic, military, and political ties with this country.

In mid-May, the British magazine "Economist" assessed that the leader of China, Xi Jinping, has his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, under his control. "Indeed Russia is more dependent on China now than at any time in its history," the magazine wrote.
