Insomnia is a problem affecting an increasing number of people. In response to these challenges, many people are seeking effective methods to improve sleep quality.

What is the Egyptian sleep ritual?

One of the recommended methods for insomnia is the Egyptian sleep ritual, which has been used since ancient times. It involves wrapping the feet in cool, damp fabrics infused with essential oils such as lotus or sandalwood.

Dr. Nabil Haroun, an Egyptian physician, explained that the ancient Egyptians understood how a decrease in body temperature aids the natural shift into a sleep state. Techniques like cooling the feet and breathing in aromatic oils were used to help calm both the body and mind.

Cooling the feet and inhaling aromatic oils allow for slowing down both physically and mentally, stimulating the nervous system to enter a deep relaxation mode. This method can be particularly useful in the summer when heat makes it difficult to get a restful sleep.

Alternative methods

For those struggling with insomnia, besides the Egyptian ritual, other methods are also recommended. One of them is the "10-3-2-1-0" method, developed by Dr. Jess Andrade. It involves avoiding stimulating substances 10 hours before bedtime, consuming light meals 3 hours before bedtime, relaxing 2 hours before bedtime, turning off electronic devices 1 hour before bedtime, and avoiding morning naps.

Another method is using lemon balm, an herb that has been used in natural medicine for centuries. Known for its gentle, lemony aroma, it's an ideal remedy for stress and insomnia. Regularly drinking lemon balm tea before bed improves sleep quality, making it deeper and more restorative.
