Elderberry, or Sambucus nigra, is commonly found across Europe. Unlike the ornamental lilac, often mistaken for elderberry, the latter features delicate white flowers clustered in umbels and small, dark purple fruits. Though unassuming at first glance, elderberry packs a punch with active ingredients that support health.

Regularly consuming infusions, juices, or syrups from elderberry can naturally boost immunity and positively impact the circulatory system. This is all thanks to its valuable flavonoids, vitamin C, vitamin A, and minerals like potassium, calcium, and iron.   3. Once the fruits are soft, strain them through a sieve and add about 450 g of sugar and juice from one lemon to the resulting liquid.
  4. Boil the mixture again and pour it into sterilized jars or bottles.

This syrup can be consumed daily—preferably 1–2 tablespoons a day for adults, while children require only half that dose. It can be added to tea or diluted with water as a healthy drink.

An alternative is the infusion of elderberry flowers. Simply pour boiling water over 1–2 tablespoons of dried flowers and steep for a few minutes. This drink not only boosts immunity but also soothes coughs, fever, and cold symptoms.
