  • The French government spokesperson, Sophie Primas, deemed the ceasefire terms in Ukraine proposed by Vladimir Putin unrealistic.
  • Among these terms was the cessation of Western military aid to Kyiv.
  • The spokesperson also questioned the adherence to Russia’s declared partial ceasefire.

Putin does not adhere to the ceasefire

Primas said Vladimir Putin's conditions do not seem realistic, at least not for European countries and Ukraine. The spokesperson commented on the results of Tuesday's phone conversation between Putin and US President Donald Trump and added that there is still "a certain distance to cover" to achieve a ceasefire.

Primas questioned the adherence to Russia’s self-declared partial ceasefire; she pointed out that, on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, "the Russian armed forces shelled energy infrastructure in Ukraine."

Overall, the conversation between the leaders of Russia and the US "cannot end with an agreement because the Ukrainians themselves are not participating in the discussion, nor are European countries," she added.

Macron talks daily with Trump and Zelensky

The government spokesperson also said French President Emmanuel Macron conducts "daily talks" with Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and European leaders.

The BFMTV portal reported on Wednesday that Macron spoke on the phone with the US President on Tuesday. During the conversation, he raised the issue of European interests.

The Élysée Palace, in a statement forwarded by the AFP agency, expressed caution regarding the discussion between Putin and Trump. It advocated for the involvement of the Ukrainian side in the talks and emphasized that all actions promoting peace should be taken.
