German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed support for Canada in its confrontation with Donald Trump, who imposed tariffs and suggested that Canada should become the 51st state of the USA. According to "Bloomberg," Scholz stressed that Canada is an independent country with many friends in Europe, especially in Germany.

Trump's trade actions, including proposals regarding Canada, have heightened tensions between the North American neighbours. The US President announced the introduction of a 25% tariff on imported cars and car parts, which the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney described as a "direct attack." Carney noted it as a violation of the USMCA trade agreement.

Canada stands against Trump

Canada, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the maple leaf flag, united in the face of Trump's threats. Former prime ministers called on citizens to express national pride, contributing to an increase in patriotism and boosting the sales of products with Canadian symbols.

Trump imposed tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China, triggering trade tensions. As a close ally of the USA, Canada was affected more than China, undermining the USA's leadership among Western countries and sparking anti-American sentiments.

Canada responded to Trump's tariffs by imposing a 25% tariff on American goods. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau firmly rejected the idea of Canada joining the USA, emphasizing the country's independence. However, the tariffs may impact Canada's economy, potentially leading to a recession.
