Mexico sees decline in deportations amid Trump's policies
Since January, when Donald Trump assumed the office of President of the USA, Mexico has accepted 39,000 deported individuals. This is fewer than in the previous year during Joe Biden's presidency.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that since the beginning of Donald Trump's presidency in the USA, Mexico has accepted 39,000 individuals deported from the United States. Of this number, 33,000 are Mexican citizens.
Reuters noted that this number is lower than the previous year when Mexico accepted 52,000 deportees during Joe Biden's presidency.
Decrease in deportation numbers
Compared to the year 2024, the number of deportees to Mexico has significantly decreased. In February, March, and April of the previous year, Mexico accepted 52,000 individuals deported from the USA.
Despite Donald Trump's announcement of the "largest deportation operation in American history", these numbers do not confirm his declarations. AOL highlighted that Trump's statements were mainly aimed at strengthening his political position and returning to the White House.
Trump's deportation policy
From the beginning of his presidency, Donald Trump placed a strong emphasis on reducing the number of illegal immigrants in the USA. His administration aims to deport one million people annually, which is an ambitious goal and raises many controversies. "The Washington Post" claims that this ambitious endeavour raises controversies and logistical challenges.
Criticism and challenges
Trump's plan faces criticism from human rights organizations and some federal judges. According to "The Washington Post", Trump officials created a media spectacle by transferring hundreds of detainees to a prison complex in El Salvador and to the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba.
Many people fear that these actions could violate human rights.
Controversial cases
In recent months, there have been several high-profile deportation cases that have sparked public outrage. Federal Judge Terry Doughty raises alarm over the deportation of a two-year-old U.S. citizen without proper due process. Such situations undermine trust in the Trump administration and its immigration policy.
