Putin expresses interest in Ukraine talks amid U.S. criticism
Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with the special envoy of the U.S. President, Steven Witkoff, confirmed Russia's readiness to negotiate with Ukraine without preconditions, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

Vladimir Putin and Steve Witkoff met on Friday in Moscow. The talks lasted three hours and were "constructive".
Russia claims it wants to talk to Kyiv
On Saturday, the Kremlin spokesperson revealed the details of the conversation. According to him, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with the special envoy of the U.S. President Steven Witkoff, confirmed Russia's readiness to negotiate with Ukraine without any preconditions.
During yesterday's conversation with Trump's envoy, Witkoff, Vladimir Putin reiterated that Russia is ready to resume the negotiation process with Ukraine without any preconditions – said the Kremlin representative.
Peskov recalled that earlier "Putin has said this many times before". However, he failed to mention that Putin previously questioned the legitimacy of Volodymyr Zelensky and then set conditions equivalent to total capitulation.
Trump hits back at Putin
On the same day, Donald Trump criticized the stance of Russia and Vladimir Putin. The American president once again addressed the recent massive missile attack on Ukraine. " It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently," he wrote on social media.

On Saturday in the Vatican, President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Donald Trump in St. Peter's Basilica. The leaders, sitting on chairs, face to face, talked for about 15 minutes. It was the first meeting since the incident that occurred at the White House at the end of February 2025.
Zelensky posted about the conversation: "very symbolic meeting that has potential to become historic, if we achieve joint results," he wrote.
