Rumoured golden exile: Zelensky's potential path to London
Western countries are reportedly preparing a "golden exile" for President Volodymyr Zelensky in London after reaching a "peace agreement" in Russia's war against Ukraine, claims the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, citing "rumours" circulating among Ukrainian diplomats.
According to El Mundo, Ukrainian diplomats speculate that Zelensky is planned to be sent to London while Ukraine prepares for presidential and parliamentary elections.
The term "golden exile" describes a situation where a person, usually a politician or leader, is forced to leave their country in a manner that ensures comfortable and safe living conditions in exile. This form of exile aims to provide him with security and stability while Ukraine prepares for elections and rebuilding the country.
Western troops to safeguard the agreement
Journalists indicated that this scenario also involves the "prompt" admission of Ukraine to the European Union (EU) with assurances of economic support for the country's reconstruction and the deployment of European peacekeeping forces. This includes troops from the United Kingdom and France.
According to this scenario, these forces would be deployed along the line of contact with the Russians, which would be established at the time of the truce announcement, to "ensure compliance with a potential ceasefire."
General Keith Kellogg, whom Donald Trump appointed as the special representative for Ukraine, had previously revealed some of his plans for organizing negotiations. According to El Mundo, the plan anticipates that future U.S. military aid to Ukraine will depend on Ukraine's participation in peace talks with Russia.
El Mundo also quotes statements allegedly made by Trump to his closest associates: "If Russia does not agree to participate in peace talks, we will supply Ukraine with more weapons than the Biden administration ever did."
Plan to end the war in Ukraine
On Thursday, December 5, the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, declared that Ukraine is ready to conduct elections immediately after the war with Russia ends.
Earlier, CNN reported that Kellogg had developed a plan to end the war, which includes the diplomatic recovery of occupied Ukrainian territories and the suspension of Ukraine's rapprochement with NATO indefinitely.
Kellogg also proposes partially easing sanctions against Russia in exchange for agreeing to a ceasefire, freezing the front line, and creating a demilitarized zone in Ukraine. If Russia signs a peace agreement, the sanctions would be completely lifted, and customs duties on the export of Russian energy resources would finance the country's reconstruction.
