Russian equipment losses in Ukraine hit record low
Russian losses in Ukraine have declined to a record low, reports the Ukrainian agency Unian, citing calculations by an OSINT analyst. Data collected by the Oryx portal suggest that the Russian Federation is running out of equipment.
The data compiled by the Oryx team indicate a reduction in Russia's losses of military equipment in Ukraine. This trend was particularly noticeable in February. An OSINT analyst operating under the pseudonym Cyrus on the platform X published an infographic showing these changes. The analyst offers two explanations for this trend.
The first explanation proposes that the reduction in equipment losses may signal a general depletion of weapons in the Russian army. Conversely, Cyrus points out that the Russians might be conserving and stockpiling equipment for a larger offensive in the spring or summer.
The analyst stated that all these reductions in losses and the appearance of donkeys and soldiers on crutches on the battlefield do not indicate preparations for a major counter-offensive, noting that a more realistic scenario may be the depletion of Russian stockpiles in warehouses.
Ukrainian losses and new technologies
Unlike Russia, Ukrainian losses do not show as clear a decline. Cyrus even notes a certain increase, which may point to an increase in the amount of equipment in the Ukrainian armed forces or a stable amount amidst intensified fighting.
New technologies on the front
Russian forces have started using modernized ATS-59G tractors on the front, which are quite rare. They can replace traditional transporters. The Unian agency points out that this may further support the argument regarding the depletion of Russian weapons.
The OSINT analyst Cyrus does not specify exactly which machines the Russians have lost the most. However, it is known that among the most valuable such vehicles are primarily the T-90M Proryv tanks. Although not as many have been destroyed as the BTR and BMP transporters in recent years of the war, they continue to pose a real threat to Ukrainian units on the front.
The T-90M Proryv is one of the most modern and sophisticated armored vehicles in the possession of the Russian army. This tank employs advanced technologies aimed at gaining an advantage in modern armed conflicts. It features a modern 125 mm 2A46M-5 caliber gun and an upgraded Kalina fire control system. Its protection is enhanced by Relikt reactive armor, shielding both the turret and the hull. The armament is supplemented by two machine guns with calibers of 7.62 mm and 12.7 mm, underscoring the emphasis on equipment selection according to the standards of contemporary military technology.
