Russian submarines in the Black Sea have been equipped with a greater number of Kalibr missiles. According to Unian, one of the submarines is now armed with six missiles, an increase from the previous four.

More Kalibrs on board

Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian navy, explained that these changes might result from the redesign of the submarines conducted by Russia. "One can notice the difference, as it can now carry up to six missiles at once," Pletenchuk said about a submarine that has undergone modernization. This suggests that the Russian Federation might have made changes to a larger number of vessels.

Unian reports that as of April 21, there was one Russian submarine in the Black Sea equipped with six Kalibr missiles. This marks a significant change in the strategy of the Russian navy.

It's also worth mentioning that Russia is building the largest universal landing ship, known as the Ivan Rogov project 23900, in occupied Crimea. Up to 20 helicopters and 1,000 soldiers will be able to be stationed onboard.

Kalibr missiles

Kalibr missiles come in various variants, such as the 3M14 and 3M54. The Kalibr is valued for its long-range capability, with the 3M14 variant able to travel a distance exceeding 932 miles, while the anti-ship 3M54 variant can reach nearly 435 miles.

Kalibr missiles use advanced guidance technologies, combining inertial navigation with an active radar homing system, alongside satellite navigation and DSMAC. An important aspect of this Russian weapon system, developed in the 1990s, is its capability to carry both conventional and nuclear warheads.
