Russia's missile strategy: New threats and global reach

- Russia is close to creating missiles no less effective than Oreshnik. The effectiveness of US steps to reduce the combat capabilities of the Strategic Missile Forces is almost zero - said General Sergei Karakaev. The Russian Strategic Missile Forces Commander also discussed the tests of new intercontinental missiles.

Many reports from Russian media or government officials contain propaganda. Such reports are part of the information war waged by the Russian Federation.

Karakaev highlighted that missile tests in Russia were carried out toward the Pacific to evaluate their maximum flight range and verify compliance with declared specifications. He explained that such testing is a critical step in developing new intercontinental ballistic missiles designed to reach any location on the planet. "There is no place in the world where a Russian missile cannot reach," he remarked in an interview with Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.

Is Russia working on a new weapon?

The General also reported on the development of new types of warheads for intercontinental ballistic missiles, including the hypersonic block of the "Avangard" complex and the hypersonic system of the "Oresnik" complex.

The commander noted that these are not the only examples, as a variety of equally effective products are currently in the final stages of development, though it is not yet the right time to discuss them.

The key role of "Oresnik"

Karakaev noted that the "Oresnik" test under combat conditions was "an important event in the history of the Strategic Missile Forces". He also assured that Russia and the USA inform each other about tests of ballistic missiles.

On November 21st, Russia used the "Oresnik" missile to attack a military facility in Dnipro. Russian President Vladimir Putin described this as a response to the use of Western long-range ATACMS and Storm Shadow missiles by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for attacks on Russian territory.

Putin stated that having a sufficient number of missiles like the "Oresnik" practically eliminates the need to use nuclear weapons. According to him, Russia has a stockpile of "Oresnik" ready for use, and mass production of missiles has already begun.
