Russia's nuclear threat: Uncovering potential UK targets

The Russians, who possess nuclear weapons, are trying to intimidate the world to achieve their political goals. However, this does not mean the warheads are merely a bluff. As the portal ladbible.com reminds us, secret Russian documents indicate three potential targets for a nuclear attack. Vladimir Putin could use nuclear weapons against, among others, the United Kingdom.

In 2024, the Financial Times described what was included in a presentation for Russian officers. According to the American newspaper, as recalled by ladbible.com, the Russians were trained to plan a nuclear attack on 32 targets in Europe.

Some of these targets were supposed to be on France's western coast. Three were marked on the United Kingdom's territory. They were precisely listed in the document. The first target is Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, a town in northwest England, where the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine shipyard is located. The second target was the industrial city of Hull, and the third was the shipyard in Rosyth, near Edinburgh, where two Royal Navy aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, were built.

The documents mentioned, numbering 29, date from 2008-2014, long before Russia's invasion of Ukraine. However, this does not change the fact that Vladimir Putin and his entourage were already pursuing an imperial policy at that time. During this period, they attacked Georgia and commenced the invasion of the "little green men" in Donbas and Crimea. The weapons described in the documents were intended for tactical strikes on specific targets. It is also indicated that Moscow may use nuclear weapons if 20 percent of its strategic submarines with ballistic missiles are eliminated. These units are capable of launching nuclear missiles.

Although the documents are over 10 years old, according to FT, they are still relevant. Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov questioned the "authenticity" of the documents. However, it is hard not to feel there is some truth to them. The portal ladbible.com reminds us that a pro-government Russian television presenter openly talked about spilling British blood. Since the invasion of Ukraine, Vladimir Solovyov has warned that British and French soldiers will die if they participate in the conflict. Let's recall that both countries declare their willingness to send troops to ensure security for Kyiv.
