Tesla faces market turbulence amid Musk's political ties
The number of used Teslas in the Canadian market increased by 33% in 2025, according to current data reported by Business Insider. Experts attribute this situation to the political activities of Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla.
Autotrader data indicates that the inventory of used Teslas grew from 8,500 at the beginning of 2025 to 11,515 by mid-March.
Experts highlight that Elon Musk's actions have impacted Tesla's image. The increase in the number of used Teslas might be due to greater product availability. Nevertheless, the prices of used Teslas are dropping, which might discourage owners from selling. On average, a used Tesla is currently about $10,000 (CAD 14,100) cheaper than other electric cars.
Tesla crisis
Tesla's deliveries in the first quarter of 2025 fell more than expected, marking the worst result since 2022. The company delivered 336,681 cars—significantly below analysts' forecasts and also lower than the numbers from the first quarter of 2024, reports the Financial Times.
Tesla’s challenges could be due to several factors. Elon Musk's involvement with American President Donald Trump's policies and his comments on European political issues may have affected Tesla's image in those regions, notes the Financial Times. Moreover, delays in updating the Model Y, one of Tesla's key vehicles, have also negatively impacted sales results.
On Saturday, opponents of billionaire Elon Musk’s actions in President Donald Trump’s administration gathered once again in front of Tesla showrooms in North America and some European cities, hoping their protest would lead to a further decline in the sales of cars produced by his company.
In previous demonstrations, some participants committed acts of vandalism, setting Tesla cars on fire, which U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi condemned as an act of domestic terrorism.
