Trump defends FAA amid aviation mishaps, praises pilots
Donald Trump addressed the recent aviation disasters in the USA, emphasizing that they are not related to the actions of the Federal Aviation Administration.
Last weekend in the United States, another aviation disaster occurred. President Donald Trump spoke on the matter, responding to questions about the incident. As reported by ladbible.com, on Sunday, March 9, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, a single-engine aircraft crashed into a parking lot. Five people were taken to the hospital. The authorities have not disclosed details regarding their condition.
Last month, a Delta Air Lines plane flying from Minneapolis to Toronto overshot the runway during landing and burst into flames. Fortunately, no one died. The same could not be said for the passengers of the American Airlines plane, which collided with a US Army helicopter over Washington. Everyone on board both aircraft perished.
During an interview with Fox News, President Trump was asked about the role of Chris Rocheleau as head of the Federal Aviation Administration in the context of the first incident mentioned.
It has nothing to do with the department. It was a small plane; this would have happened regardless of the size of the department. They have periods when things happen more often than usual, and then everything returns to normal and there are no problems for many years — said the president.
Rocheleau was appointed by Trump as the new head of the FAA in January, replacing Mike Whittaker, who resigned the day before Trump took office.
Trump praises and criticizes
The president also praised the pilot who avoided a collision with a private aircraft on the runway at Chicago Midway Airport late last month. "I’ll tell you, I think the Southwest pilot did a fantastic job last week when he lifted that plane off there because if he put the brakes on, that wouldn’t have been good, and I think the license should be maybe revoked for the plane that got in the way for the pilot, revoked for the plane that got in his way," added Trump.
The way he immediately stepped on the gas and lifted up as opposed to, you know, thinking for about three seconds where it would’ve been too late, the Southwest pilot, or pilots, they did a great job, added the American president, as quoted by ladbible.com.
