Trump proposes Canada join U.S. for free missile shield

Donald Trump has once again floated the idea of annexing Canada to the United States. Trump suggested that if Canada were to become the 51st state of the USA, it could use the protection provided by the so-called Golden Dome for free. Otherwise, it would have to pay.

Last week Donald Trump unveiled the "Golden Dome" project, a new missile defence system with sensors and missiles in space. The system is estimated to cost $175 (CAD 242) billion.

On Tuesday, Trump dedicated a post to this project on the platform truthsocial.com. According to him, Canada has shown interest in participating in the construction of this system.

"I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 Billion Dollars (CAD 85 billion) if they remain a separate, but unequal, Nation, but will cost ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st State" - Trump stated.

He mentioned that the authorities in Ottawa are "considering the offer," although earlier Canadian politicians have repeatedly rejected Trump's demands, emphasizing the country's independence and sovereignty.

"Golden Dome". Doubts remain

While Trump assures nearly 100-percent effectiveness of the system, not everyone is convinced of its feasibility.

Senator Tim Sheehy believes the cost could reach trillions of dollars, and Gen. Glen VanHerck estimates the implementation time at 5 to 10 years.

Even though a detailed plan for the shield has not been disclosed, Trump, along with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Space Force General Michael Guetlein, who was appointed to lead the project, mentioned that the new shield, named "Golden Dome" by Trump, is intended to be multi-layered, based on open architecture, integrated with existing systems, and constructed by many corporations.
