U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz spoke on Wednesday with his Russian counterpart at the White House. The Russian agency TASS first provided this information.

This was later confirmed by White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt.

She also added that Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump's special representative, will fly to Moscow later this week for a meeting with Putin. Although this topic appeared in the media today, there has been no official confirmation until now.

We have not been this close to peace in this war so far

"We urge the Russians to sign on to this plan. This is the closest we have been to peace in this war. We are at the 10-yard line and the president expects the Russians to help us run this into the end zone," Leavitt said during a brief meeting with journalists in front of the White House.

The spokesperson did not predict whether Presidents Trump and Putin will soon have a conversation.

Observers indicate that after Ukraine agreed to a temporary ceasefire, it was expected that Washington would intensify dialogue with the Kremlin.

They also remind us that the Russian side has announced that it will not decide on a 30-day ceasefire until the Americans provide its details.
