Ukrainian forces counter North Korean assault in Kursk region
Soldiers from Ukraine's 73rd Marine Centre of Special Operations Forces repelled a North Korean military assault in the Kursk region. At least 12 soldiers were killed, and another 20 were injured.
The North Koreans attacked a position of Ukraine's Security and Defence Forces (SSO) in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
North Koreans had no chance
"During the enemy's assault attempt, SSO operators opened fire with a stationary automatic grenade launcher MK-19 and conducted a series of drone drops," the unit's statement reads.
As a result of the action, SSO operators eliminated 12 North Korean soldiers and wounded another 20.
100 killed and nearly 1,000 injured
On Thursday, South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS) reported that at least 100 North Korean soldiers were killed and about 1,000 were injured in clashes with Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of Russia. According to NIS, the North Korean military is being used as a frontline assault force.
"Some of the estimated 11,000 North Korean soldiers deployed in the Kursk region (where Ukrainian forces have been conducting an offensive since August of this year) began to engage in actual combat in December," NIS reported during a closed-door meeting before the National Assembly Intelligence Committee.
On Wednesday, Ukraine's Security Service reported intercepting conversations of Russians indicating significant losses of North Korean troops. Earlier in the week, the press service of Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) also reported "at least 30 soldiers killed or wounded" during clashes over the past weekend in the Kursk region.
