A segment of Volodymyr Zelensky's statement to journalists, which was unexpectedly interrupted by a phone call that the Ukrainian president decided to take, was published online.
"Sorry Emmanuel"
As it became clear moments later, the caller was the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. "Sorry Emmanuel... I just have a conversation with some journalists. Can I ring you back in some minutes, 15-20 minutes? Please, thank you, Emmanuel" he said to the French leader.
The recording also shows his statement immediately after the brief conversation ended. Zelensky mentioned that he had just spoken with President Macron. He further added that both leaders have phone conversations roughly once a day.
Emmanuel Macron spoke with Volodymyr Zelensky, among other times, just after a disagreement occurred at the White House at the end of February.
During a meeting between Trump and Zelensky, a sudden dispute arose between the leaders. The previously planned signing of the bilateral U.S.-Ukraine mineral agreement was postponed, and Zelensky left the White House. Shortly afterward, the Élysée Palace announced that President Emmanuel Macron spoke with the Ukrainian leader.
On Monday this week, Volodymyr Zelensky also reported a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron. They were supposed to discuss, among other things, a planned conversation on Tuesday between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Macron mentioned his conversation with the Ukrainian president in a post on platform X that day.
