The Chinese authorities warn that this plan will escalate the militarisation of outer space and the risk of an arms rac4 – stated Mao during a briefing in Beijing.

President Trump announced on Tuesday that he had selected the new shield project named "Golden Dome," which is expected to cost $175 (€155) billion, be completed by the end of his term, and provide nearly 100 per cent efficacy.

Spokeswoman Mao assessed that the U.S. plan "violates the principle that the security of all countries should not be compromised and undermines global strategic balance and stability. China is seriously concerned about this," she added.

She added that these actions violate the principles of peaceful use of space, contribute to the militarisation of outer space and the risk of an arms race.

"U.S. obsession"

The spokeswoman criticised the United States that the country "is obsessed with seeking absolute security for itself," in line with the "America First" principle.

Mao called on the American side to take actions aimed at increasing mutual strategic trust between major powers and maintaining global strategic stability.
