Elon Musk's political fade: Republicans shift focus as Tesla calls

The billionaire Elon Musk has started to take a back seat, writes the Politico portal on Monday. A close associate of Donald Trump has not completely disappeared from political life, but Republicans have stopped mentioning him.

President Donald Trump used to write about Elon Musk on his social media platform Truth Social every few days. Now his name has not appeared in Trump's posts for over a month. Trump's advisors and official White House accounts have also effectively stopped publishing photos with Musk and content in which he is mentioned.

Musk is losing popularity

This is a notable change for the businessman, who was almost omnipresent at the beginning of Trump's second term: in the Oval Office, at cabinet meetings, aboard Air Force One, or at the presidential inauguration, Politico lists.

According to the portal, Musk's waning presence may bring positive political effects for Republicans. Polls indicate that Musk's popularity is falling to a much greater extent than Trump's.

The site also recalled that in April, a liberal judge won the election for the state Supreme Court judge in Wisconsin despite a record sum spent by Musk on the campaign of her conservative competitor, Brad Schimel.

His Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), tasked with cutting budget expenditures and reducing bureaucracy, continues its activities but has been overshadowed by tariff and budget issues, Politico continues.

Musk wants to focus on Tesla

Republicans, when asked about Musk, still speak positively about him. They want access to his wealth, followers, and online influence during future elections. Some assess that Musk would help the party most before the midterm elections in 2026 if he were not directly involved in the campaign.

However, the head of Tesla is unlikely to completely withdraw from political life, and Democrats believe they can still use him as a "bogeyman" - the portal assessed.

At the end of April, Musk announced that he intends to spend significantly less time directing DOGE's activities and focus on managing Tesla.
