How to keep your sink spotless: Tips beyond dishwashing

Even if you own a dishwasher, hand washing is unavoidable, especially during holiday preparations when you urgently need a particular dish. It's often quicker to wash it in the sink. However, the task doesn't end there. You also need to maintain the sink and the drain.

Hand-washing dishes is a task you can't completely eliminate, even with a dishwasher. Some items, like wooden cutting boards or copper dishes, require a gentler approach, as they are easily damaged. Once washing is complete, one of the most critical habits is to thoroughly clean the sink.

Washing dishes is not the end

Do you sometimes leave dirty dishes in the sink? This makes it all the more important to clean it regularly. If neglected, bacteria and food residues can accumulate, potentially leading to clogged drains. It's essential to clean the sink after washing dishes, even when tempted to rest.

How to take care of the sink?

Maintaining a clean sink ensures an aesthetic appearance and pleasant smell and protects against bacteria. A neglected sink can become more unhygienic than a toilet, so superficial cleaning is insufficient. It's worth trying proven methods that help eliminate residues and unpleasant odours.

Use baking soda

One home method for cleaning the sink is to mix one tablespoon of baking soda with half a cup of lemon juice. Apply this simple paste to the sink and leave it for a few minutes before wiping it clean. Afterwards, rinse thoroughly with water to remove all impurities.

Instead of stacking dirty dishes in the sink, storing them in a designated basket on the countertop is better. It's also advisable to start washing with the least dirty dishes.
