India decided on a military operation against Pakistan after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The Indian Ministry of Defence emphasised that these actions were a response to the "barbaric attack."

"India has shown significant restraint in the choice of targets and the method of execution," added the Indian Ministry of Defence.

The Indian Ministry of Defence noted that the choice of targets and methods of execution was deliberate to avoid escalating the conflict. The Indian army, in a statement published on Wednesday on the X service, stated that "Justice is served."

Pakistan announces response

A spokesperson for the Pakistani army informed local media that India attacked Pakistan with missiles in three locations. In response, Pakistan announces retaliatory actions, which could lead to further tension between the two countries.

Wednesday's attack was the first since 2019. At that time, India attacked Pakistani territory in retaliation for a suicide bombing on Indian paramilitary officers. Since the war in 1971, India had not attacked Pakistani territories before 2019.

The point of contention is Kashmir, which both countries claim. As CNN reminds us, India and Pakistan control parts of Kashmir and claim it in its entirety. Kashmir is one of the most militarised places in the world.

International observers are calling for dialogue and de-escalation of tensions. In light of the growing threat, it is crucial for both sides to take steps towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
