Israel launches inquiry into Sara Netanyahu's witness intimidation
The Israeli Prosecutor's Office has confirmed the initiation of an investigation into Sara Netanyahu, the Prime Minister's wife. She is accused of intimidating a witness in her husband's corruption trial.
The Israeli Prosecutor's Office confirmed that an investigation has been launched against Sara Netanyahu, the Prime Minister's wife, concerning allegations of intimidating a witness in her husband's corruption trial. The cybercrime police division has been investigating since 26 December 2024.
According to reports from Channel 12 television, Sara Netanyahu allegedly commissioned an intimidation campaign on social media aimed at the Prime Minister's opponents. The actions targeted, among others, Hadas Klein, a key witness in one of the three criminal cases against Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israel's Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, announced an inquiry into witness harassment and obstruction of justice. Naama Lazimi, a lawmaker from the leftist Democratic Party, emphasised that official confirmation of the investigation is crucial for upholding the rule of law.
Sara Netanyahu and previous controversies
Sara Netanyahu had previously been accused of the improper use of state funds. In 2019, she agreed to a plea deal with the prosecution, admitting guilt. The case involved expenses for pre-prepared meals despite employing a chef at the Prime Minister's residence.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister from 2009-2021, resumed office at the end of 2022. The current investigation against his wife may affect his political position.
