Russian Vice-Governor Yefremov killed in Kursk mine blast

The Vice-Governor of the Maritime Province, Sergei Yefremov, has died in the Kursk region. It is believed that the military vehicle he was travelling in struck a mine.

Yefremov was the commander of the "Tiger" volunteer unit in the Kursk region. The Russian news agency Interfax reported that the vice-governor died "while returning from a combat mission".

Telegram channels associated with Russian services indicated that the vehicle Yefremov was in hit a mine in the Kursk region. Another officer of the Russian Armed Forces died with him.

The Governor of the Maritime Province, Oleg Kozhemyako, confirmed that Yefremov died on 2 February.

"Tiger" unit

Yefremov commanded the "Tiger" unit, formed in the summer of 2022, based on the 155th Marine Infantry Brigade of the Pacific Fleet. In August 2024, the unit was relocated to the Kursk region.

Yefremov has been vice-governor since 2024, during which time he was responsible for the regional government's internal political policy.
