According to the first survey conducted by CNN, the majority of viewers of Tuesday's presidential debate in the United States declared Kamala Harris the winner of the clash, outpacing Donald Trump.

The majority of viewers who had the opportunity to watch Tuesday's presidential debate declared the current Vice President Kamala Harris the winner. According to the first survey published by CNN, 63 percent of respondents believed that Harris performed better in the debate, while 37 percent favoured Donald Trump. Watch the entire debate here.

Interestingly, Harris's performance in Philadelphia exceeded the expectations of many respondents. Before the debate started, the expectations about who would win the clash were evenly divided – 50 percent to 50 percent. However, after the debate, a significant majority, namely 63 percent, identified Kamala Harris as the unequivocal winner, which represented a substantial shift from the pre-debate expectations.

CNN compared the current results to those that emerged after the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. At that time, 67 percent of respondents stated that Trump was the better debater. Meanwhile, a focus group study conducted by CNN with the participation of 13 undecided voters from Pennsylvania – a key state for the election results – revealed that after the debate, seven of them said they would vote for Vice President Harris, and four for Trump.

Trump declared his own victory in the debate

Right after the debate, Donald Trump announced himself the winner, citing unspecified surveys. According to his words, these were supposed to indicate that as many as 90 percent of respondents believed he had won the debate. However, he did not provide any specific sources from which he might have obtained this information.

This report was prepared based on information provided by the Polish Press Agency, with Oskar Górzyński responsible for the Washington report.
