The wife of the man who drove the car into the crowd during Liverpool's victory parade learned of the incident when she recognised her car on the television news.
As the "Daily Mail" highlights, the 53-year-old entrepreneur and triathlete lives with his wife and three children in a house on the outskirts of Liverpool. Neighbours describe him as a "family man" with "well-mannered children".
The suspect was arrested after his Ford Galaxy drove into the crowd of fans in the city centre. Seven people remain in the hospital, but their condition is improving. Among the injured are children. The man was arrested on charges of attempted murder, driving under the influence of drugs, and dangerous driving.
Neighbours were surprised when the police arrived at the suspect's house. "That's completely out of character," said one. "It's a nice family, and he has always been helpful," he added. Another neighbour described the suspect as a "fantastic guy".
The police are still investigating the circumstances of the incident. Detective Rachel Wilson from Merseyside Police assured the public that the investigation is progressing, and the number of people in hospital is decreasing.
"I want to reassure the public of Merseyside that detectives are making significant progress as we seek to establish the full circumstances that led to what happened," she said.
Controversy over sharing videos
Politician Liam Robinson has appealed to residents not to share footage of the accident on social media and to report any information about the incident to the police.
Nick Searle, Chief Fire Officer, reported on the swift rescue operation that enabled those trapped under the vehicle to be freed.
These events have shaken the Liverpool community. King Charles expressed his deep concern, and the Prince and Princess of Wales sent their condolences to the victims.
