In Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, a 61-year-old woman has given birth to her first child, a boy named Petar. Never before in this country has a woman of such age given birth to her child.
Petar was born at 36 weeks, weighing 2.3 kg and measuring 48 cm. The delivery was performed by caesarean section at the University Clinic of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in Skopje. Both the mother and the baby are in excellent health.
Many tries. "There are no boundaries in medicine"
The woman tried for 37 years to fulfil her dream of motherhood. She went through 10 unsuccessful in vitro attempts and 10 miscarriages.
Despite this, she did not give up and froze her egg more than 30 years ago. Thanks to this and the advancement of medicine, she got pregnant.
The clinic director, Irena Aleksijowska-Papastiew, emphasised that this family's story shows that medicine has no boundaries. Faith, years of effort, and medical advancement allowed them to fulfil a dream that seemed unattainable, she said at a press conference.
The child's 65-year-old retiree father humorously approaches his new role, joking that taking care of his son won't be a problem.
