Russia considers video game to simulate drone warfare
Hundreds of Russian drones attack targets in Ukraine daily. Russia seeks to utilise these experiences. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia proposes creating a computer game about the use of drones in the war with Ukraine.
The Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, Anton Alikhanov, proposed creating a computer game focusing on the use of drones in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. This proposal was directed to the Minister of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, and the Mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, reports the Russian service "Vedomosti" citing its sources.
The Ministry of Digital Development, officially asked about these reports, stated that it has not yet received official requests from the Ministry of Industry and Trade but supports initiatives aimed at "developing activities in creating and promoting video games by Russian developers". Details about the project have not been disclosed yet.
"There is a real demand"
According to Vasily Ovchinnikov, general director of the Video Game Development Organization, there is a real demand in Russia for military simulators and patriotic projects, especially from military and educational institutions. Ovchinnikov believes that a game about drones in the "special military operation zone" has the chance to gain popularity if well-executed and offers engaging gameplay.
Experts cited by "Vedomosti" estimate that the cost of producing the game will depend on its genre and scale. Creating such a project may require from 50 million to as much as five billion rubles (from approximately 478,000€ to 48€ million).
