"Spiderweb" operation: Zelensky praises Ukrainian forces
"I am especially grateful to the Security Service of Ukraine for exercising our right to defence – brilliantly exercising it. The most important thing proven by Operation 'Spiderweb' is this: the war is now inflicting tangible losses and damage on the aggressor as well," wrote Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on X.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded SBU for the successful "Spiderweb" military operation, which damaged 40 Russian aircraft and destroyed 10–13 planes, according to the senior NATO official.
In his post on X platform, Zelensky acknowledged SBU, highlighting Russia's role as the agressor in the ongoing war. "Ukraine has never wanted war – but it has every right to defend itself, its independence, and its people. And that is exactly what we are doing – by all means available to us," he stated, adding that the right to self-defence is guaranteed by the international law and UN Charter.
"Russia has already used thousands of missiles and attack drones against Ukraine. It also uses strategic aviation. Russia has entered into alliances with North Korea and Iran – and is using North Korean and Iranian weapons against our cities and positions: ballistic missiles, attack drones, and artillery. North Korean military personnel – their special forces – are also fighting on Russia’s side against Ukraine. Ukraine has the right to defend itself," added President Zelensky.
Finally, he expressed his gratitude toward the Ukrainian forces, claiming that the Spiderweb action is an example of "justice being restored," adding that "this is pressure toward real peace."
Spiderweb operation
According to the NATO official quoted by Medusa portal, Spiderweb operation destroyed the Russian aircrafts "responsible for over 3,000 cruise missiles that have hit critical infrastructure targets or civilian targets in Ukraine since the war began."
President Zelensky reported that the operation took over a year and a half of planning, praising its "perfect execution," and stating that the operation was "unique." In his post on Telegram, he added that "in total, 117 drones were used in the operation, with a corresponding number of drone operators involved. 34% of the strategic cruise missile carriers stationed at air bases were hit." Military experts claim that the operation has been one of the most successful since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
