Stefanik backs Israel's annexation amid new West Bank conflict
Elise Stefanik, nominated by U.S. President Donald Trump as ambassador to the United Nations, stated on Tuesday that she agrees with the opinion that Israel has a "biblical right" to annex the West Bank.
Stefanik expressed this view, which is shared by some far-right politicians in Israel, during a hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Also nominated by Trump as ambassador to Israel, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee supports the annexation of the West Bank by Israel.
The West Bank has been occupied by Israel since 1967.
Israel launches "Iron Wall" operation
Earlier, Israel announced the start of a large-scale anti-terrorist operation in the city of Jenin on the West Bank. The Palestinian Authority's Ministry of Health reported that at least six people were killed and about 35 injured due to the Israeli attacks.
The operation, named "Iron Wall", aims to eliminate the threat from terrorists and destroy their infrastructure. The Israeli Defence Forces indicated that the operation could last several days.
