Trump's Gaza relocation plan sparks regional turmoil
"We reject Trump's statements in which he said that the residents of the Gaza Strip have no choice but to leave, and we consider them a recipe for creating chaos and tension in the region," said a Hamas representative in a statement sent to the AFP agency.
Donald Trump's announcement about taking control of the Gaza Strip, relocating Palestinians, and rebuilding the enclave is resounding increasingly.
Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas representative, emphasised in a statement to the AFP agency that this plan is an attempt to destabilise the region.
Hamas firmly opposes the implementation of this idea, arguing that instead of relocations, the Israeli occupation and aggression against Palestinians should be ended.
During a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, Trump suggested that Palestinians could find refuge in Jordan, Egypt, or other countries. The American president stated that the residents of the war-torn Gaza Strip would certainly like to leave the area.
Trump also announced the desire for long-term control over the Gaza Strip. The head of the Israeli government supported this idea.
Hamas will not allow these plans to be implemented
"Our people in the Gaza Strip will not allow these plans to pass. What is required is an end to the occupation and aggression against our people, not their expulsion from their land. Our people in Gaza have thwarted displacement and deportation plans under bombardment for more than 15 months," emphasised the Hamas representative.
The Gaza Strip, inhabited by approximately 2.1 million people, is devastated by a conflict lasting over 15 months. The war began after a Hamas attack on southern Israel on 7th October, resulting in the deaths of about 1,200 people.
The Israeli army responded with an operation aimed at destroying Hamas, which led to the death of over 47,000 Palestinians. Despite a ceasefire since 19th January, the situation in the region remains tense.
