During the interview, Lavrov shared his perspective on US President Donald Trump and his administration. Lavrov characterised Trump as a "pragmatist" and his colleagues, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as "absolutely reasonable people".

Lavrov also addressed the idea of European forces being stationed in Ukraine, labelling such discussions as "impudence". He stressed that Russia is not being consulted on this issue, which he deems unacceptable.

Trump's meeting with Zelensky

On Friday, a meeting took place between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. Initially, the discussions proceeded in a positive atmosphere, but they concluded with a disagreement.

Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance accused Zelensky of lacking gratitude and respect for the USA, resulting in a breakdown of talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine and the subsequent departure of the Ukrainian delegation from the White House.

Lavrov praised Trump for his "proper" behaviour, highlighting that Trump's slogan "common sense" signifies a shift towards a different way of acting.
