US President Donald Trump stated that Canada must spend 61 billion dollars (84 billion Canadian dollars) to join the American "Golden Dome" missile defence system.
Trump also suggested that if Canada decides to become the 51st state of the USA, the protection will be free. This information appeared on the Truth Social platform.
Expensive project
The "Golden Dome" project is expected to cost a total of 175 billion dollars (242 billion Canadian dollars). The US Congress is currently seeking 25 billion dollars (34.5 billion Canadian dollars) to begin the work.
However, according to the White House, the full implementation of the system could absorb even 542 billion dollars (749 billion Canadian dollars) over 20 years. This is significantly more than initially anticipated.
Canada is considering the proposal to join the project, which could have a significant impact on its budget. However, cooperation with the USA within the framework of the "Golden Dome" could strengthen the country's security. Decisions on this matter will be discussed during future talks between both countries.
