The Munich-based car manufacturer BMW discovered irregularities related to the export of cars to Russia. According to the company's statement, the practice was uncovered by internal audits. Further sales of cars have been halted.

The BMW Group announced its decision to terminate the employees primarily responsible for the situation.

In doing so, the company confirmed reports by Business Insider. According to the service's information, more than 100 high-quality vehicles went from the BMW plant in Hanover to Russian customers.

Strict embargo

As a result of Russia's attack on Ukraine, international trade with Russia is subject to various sanctions, including those imposed by the European Union. There is a strict embargo on car deliveries for Russian customers.

According to BMW, companies operating in different sectors are affected by this issue - their products are available in Russia, even though the companies have complied with the sanctions. This is usually related to imports coming from the so-called grey market. BMW Group assures that it is trying to prevent such actions.
