Ukrainian drones ignite fires at Russian depots in latest strikes
Ukrainian drones have once again penetrated Russian air defence and reached their targets. This time, they struck an ammunition depot in the Rostov region and a fuel depot in the Oryol region.
On Sunday, Ukrainian drones targeted a large fuel depot in Russia's Oryol region, resulting in a fire, as reported by Reuters and cited by Russian regional authorities.
Explosions in Russia: Drones reached their target
The governor of the Oryol region, Andrei Klychkov, stated on Telegram that the fire at the fuel depot in the village of Stalnoy Kon had been extinguished.
According to this source, Russian forces shot down 20 drones that were intended to attack "fuel and energy infrastructure facilities."
The independent Russian channel Astra on Telegram shared a video purportedly showing an explosion at the fuel depot.
The Ukrainian army had earlier reported that on 14th December, it attacked a terminal in Stalnoy Kon with drones, causing a massive fire.
Russian Telegram channels also released a video showing the moment of the ammunition depot explosion near Novocherkassk in Russia's Rostov region.
This depot likely belongs to the 150th Motorised Rifle Division of the Russian Armed Forces, advancing towards Kurakhove.
The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that its air defence system allegedly shot down 42 drones overnight across five regions.
Mass attacks on Ukraine
A few days ago, Russia launched extensive attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Thursday in Brussels that his country has requested 19 additional air defence systems to protect Ukraine's power grid. He added that failure to secure these systems could result in Ukraine losing 4 or 5 gigawatts of electricity due to Russian attacks.
