Everyone who has had contact even with a plug-in hybrid knows that coiling thick cables can cause problems. That’s why Fiat proposes a new solution: coiling them like, for example, in vacuum cleaners.

The idea itself is not new - a similarly coiled cable can be found, for example, in an electric Vespa. The battery is not replaceable; you must stand close enough to the socket. Here, you need to stand close to a charging station or a street pole.

Carlos Tavares noticed the problem, pointing out that the first thing you do when charging is dip the cable in mud. This is not very advanced technology, and it's better solved even in vacuum cleaners.

The first model with such a cable will be the Fiat Grande Panda. The cable mounted under the front grille will only allow alternating current charging, with a maximum power of 7.4 kW. Since the Panda’s battery is 44 kWh, charging will take some time. Of course, a direct current cable will also be available.

The Fiat Grande Panda will appear on the market next year.
