Meghan Markle has often made it clear that she did not enjoy life as a duchess. She criticised not only members of the royal family but also the media. She probably did not expect someone to question her revelations publicly. That day has come.

Even though Meghan Markle was a royal family member for quite a short time, her British past still follows her. She also willingly monetises this episode of her life, as shown in the documentary series for Netflix, which premiered in 2022. At that time, the former duchess and Prince Harry loudly criticised royal practices and some individuals from their close circle.

Two years ago, Mishal Husain — the journalist who conducted the first interview with the Sussexes after their engagement — was among those who faced criticism. According to a Daily Mail source, Markle believed Husain was not empathetic enough. Meghan also regretted that Oprah Winfrey did not conduct the interview. She got her wish a few years later.

A journalist criticised by Meghan Markle responds

Husain held off from providing a detailed response to the princely criticism for a long time. It was only two years after the Netflix documentary premiered that she decided to make a longer comment.

When the Duchess of Sussex said that my engagement interview with her and Harry was an 'orchestrated reality show,' I didn't know what to make of it. Begin your day with a curated outlook of top news around the world and why it matters. They seemed to have thought through what their new lives would be like and what marriage would mean for her life in particular - writes the journalist in the August issue of "Saga" magazine.

As she adds, she did not expect that over time the story of Harry and Meghan would turn out to be so winding and bumpy.

There was nothing that pointed to what would happen. It was two people who were full of joy in each other and life - we read.

Did Meghan Markle lie?

After the Sussexes' series aired on Netflix, BBC Director-General Lord Hall (who was involved in producing the interview) commented on Meghan's criticism, stating that suggesting the conversation was staged is "simply not true."

My recollection is definitely very much, asked to do an interview, and do said interview Mishal Husain later said on the "Today" programme.

Do you think Meghan and Harry will ever start building their personal brand without capitalising on the royal connections?
