Businessman Mike Lynch is one of six people considered missing after the sinking of a luxury yacht near Sicily. The 56-metre yacht, moored about 400 metres from shore, sank early Monday morning during a violent storm. The wreck is located at a depth of 50 metres.

After the luxury yacht catastrophe, 15 people were rescued. One of the first to rush to the aid of those drowning was a local fisherman who spotted a flare fired at sea. However, the yacht sank before the man could reach with help.

The 56-metre elegant yacht primarily had British citizens onboard and individuals from New Zealand, Sri Lanka, France, the USA, Canada, and Ireland.

Mike Lynch is one of the founders of the technology companies Autonomy Corporation, Invoke Capital, and Darktrace.

After selling Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard, Lynch faced court in both the USA and the United Kingdom for fraud. The charges involved intentionally inflating the value of Autonomy. HP bought the company for $11 billion, but a year later, it was found that its true value was almost $9 billion less. In June, Lynch won one of the trials in the American court.
